The hire fleet was eventually disbanded and the vessels sold off to private ownership. It is thought that FREDA was one of the last of the 26 footers to be sold.
The cruisers were carvel planked with robust construction to withstand their sometimes rough use by the amateurs who hired the boats out with little or no boating experience. The current owners have gradually repaired and restored many details on the craft so that it remains in excellent condition and is a good example of a small Halvorsen cruiser from the hire fleet.
SignificanceFREDA is a typical example of the smaller craft built by Lars Hakvorsen Sons Ltd in NSW. It was used for their hire fleet at Bobbin Head in NSW. This 26 footer was the most common size in the hire fleet.
