DescriptionReg Fazackerley built a variety of craft but is well-known for the large number of high quality dinghies he made during his career. All were clinker planked with a few simple but distinctive features to the construction. This particular dinghy is planked in King Billy Pine and it is fitted with grown oak knees. It carries no frames forward of the forward thwart, his initials under a thwart and some tumblehome in the transom, and all are classic Fazackeley hallmarks.

They have become sought after craft in recent years, with a strong group of owners and regular displays at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart. It is estimated that through the middle of the twentieth century Reg Fazackerley built approximately 100 of these sturdy vessels, and a number remain extant and in use.

SignificanceGABRIELLA is a wooden dinghy built in Tasmania in 1965. It was built in Hobart by well-known builder Reg Fazackerley and is a fine example of his particular style and carries his hallmarks. His dinghies remain in practical use but have also become collectors’ items thanks to their classic appearance and craftsmanship.
