DescriptionREMEMBER WHEN is believed to have been built around 1939 by Mort's Dock shipwrights for use around the dockyard. A previous owner bought the craft at auction from Mort's Dock in 1950, and was told that it had once been used to ferry tradesmen to work on the well known pilot vessel CAPTAIN COOK III.

It has two ineresting features that make it stand apart. The centre thwart is set well forward to make room for the tradesmen's tool kits, and help balance the boat when there is a passenger on the aft thwart. The sheer strake is double planked for added strength, handy when coming alongside ships or wharf pilings.

The lapstrake or clinker planking on steam-bent frames is a very typical method for building a dinghy for the period, and it has been restored to an excellent condition by the current owner. The extra room between the thwarts is now quite a useful space to fit an esky into while REMEMBER WHEN is out on a fishing trip, and the doubled strake has ensured the hull has remained true to its original profile.
SignificanceREMEMBER WHEN is a wooden dinghy that was probably built in NSW. It is an excellent example of a purpose built tradesman's dinghy from Mort's Dock in NSW.
