DescriptionPEP (job number 1258) was completed for the 1967 Sydney Boat Show as a display vessel for the Halvorsen stand. It was sold at the show to HC Pepper, hence the name PEP.

PEP is 7.62m (25 feet) long and has a vee-bottom hull form typical of a speedboat or the era. Halvorsen's built a small number of this design in the mid 1960s for private buyers.

It features a small forepeak with Vee bunks and head, a covered helm and seating position, which opens out to a long open cockpit aft. It is an ideal harbour recreational craft for fishing and cruising, and has a simple but elegantly proportioned profile. Like most Halvorsen boats, the hull is white and the superstructure varnished.

PEP has a cold-moulded hull with two layers of oregon planking. The original engine was a 308 cu. in. V8 Mercruiser, a powerful motor for a small craft and its planing hull has a maximum speed of about 26 knots.

In 2008, after 40 years of continued use PEP remained in good condition, although the owner planned to replace the original engine.
SignificancePEP is wooden small speedboat built by Lars Halvorsen Sons Ltd in Sydney in 1967. The firm is usually thought of as builders of hire boats, large luxury motor cruisers, and naval craft during World War II. PEP is an example of the less well known range of recreational craft built by this prolific and long standing firm.
