DescriptionThe 7.9m long carvel planked vessel was built by Bott, a builder from nearby Sale, Victoria and is believed to have been named DAWN when launched in 1942. The craft includes the deeply curved sheerline, plumb stem, low freeboard and shallow draft which were features of the netboats. It was used to fish for bream and flathead with the registered number KT105, and was a well known fishing boat from Paynesville for many years.

ELEANORE originally carried a gaff rig along with its inboard motor, currently a small diesel engine. ELEANORE is no longer used for commercial fishing, and the current owner has repaired and restored the craft for private recreational use, whilst maintaining its original configuration and structure.
SignificanceELEANORE isa wooden fishing vessel built in Victoria in the 1940s. It is a seventy year old example of the net boats used for over a century on the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria for commercial and later recreational fishing. The net boats are distinct to this area and share some common proportions. The double-ended or canoe stern which is one unusual feature of ELEANORE's design is in contrast to the usual transom stern shape.
