When first launched the bridge-deck was open, and the fixed flying-bridge canopy is a later addition that blends in well with the stylish lines of the vessel. The hull lines are also ideal for their purpose as fast displacement hulls, quite capable of offshore passages in good conditions.
It was luxury craft like these that made Halvorsens the premier motor cruiser builders for many years after World War II, and encouraged them to look at exporting their designs to the USA.
MINOCQUA is one of the flagship craft around Australia for the Halvorsen fleet, and has featured at a number of Classic and Wooden Boat festivals in recent years.
SignificanceMINOCQUA is a large motor crusier built in Sydney in 1947. It is an outstanding example of the early post World War II luxury motor cruiser designs from Lars Halvorsen Sons, the premier motor cruiser builders in Sydney from the 1930s through to the 1970s. It remains in excellent condition and helps interpret the important story of motor launch designs and their evolution over many decades.
